Inside the Search: Sixth Edition

As the job market continues to shift, understanding what recruiters are seeing on the front lines can give candidates a real edge. In this edition of Inside the Search, we sat down with Madelyn Bradway, a Sr. Sourcer at CSS ProSearch, to get her take on what’s happening in the world of sales recruiting—and how top candidates can better position themselves to land their next role.

What trends are you seeing right now in the marketplace that are shaping how CSS ProSearch sources and places talent?

I am seeing an increase in job openings and more sales opportunities becoming available.

What’s a common mistake you see job seekers make, and how can they avoid it?

I see job seekers not filling out their profile and adding their “brag book” of accomplishments to their profile so it can be easily found by recruiters and hiring managers. Another common mistake I see job seekers make is not checking their LinkedIn often, inMails and potential job opportunities could be in their LinkedIn inbox unanswered.

What’s your top tip for crafting a resume that gets noticed by both recruiters and hiring managers?

Try to customize your resume based on the job description you are applying to. For example, if the job is within the healthcare industry, try to highlight what you have done in your career so far that has been healthcare-focused. Another example is for software roles, adding in your call points, average deal size, and any other sales accomplishments.

What’s one thing candidates can do after an interview to improve their chances of landing the job?

Make sure to send a thank-you email to the hiring manager and whoever else the candidate just interviewed with. Continue to share your interest in the opportunity and add the people who the candidate interviews with into your network on LinkedIn.

What’s the best way for candidates to build a strong relationship with a recruiter?

Initially, the candidate should have a well-filled-out LinkedIn profile and add their resume highlights to their LinkedIn page. This will make the candidate more attractive for a recruiter to message, then the candidate should reply to the recruiter quickly. The candidate should have a strong line of communication with the recruiter, sending updates on where they are in the interview process and how they are feeling. The recruiter and candidate should be connecting to prep before interviews and after the interview to update on how it went.
