Let’s dive in.
From your perspective, what are the most in-demand skills for sales professionals in today’s job market, and what steps can individuals take to develop or strengthen those skills?
Colleen: From my perspective, some of the most in demand skills for a salesperson are their communication skills and style. Understanding and listening to customer pain points and being able to articulate a value – prop clearly is highly important. In addition, handling objection and being able to adjust your sales style is critical. Negotiation skills are highly in demand as well. In order to strengthen any sales skills, it is important to have a solid mentor to learn from. Additionally, practicing these skills will always continue to improve your ability to sell and close deals.
What industries or roles are seeing the fastest growth, and what does this mean for both job seekers and employees?
Colleen: Although the tech market was down the last couple of years, we are seeing a steady growth in the software industry with start-up and high growth companies maturing. In addition, we are still seeking growth in healthcare roles, including diagnostics, MedTech and device.
How can companies improve their employer branding to attract better candidates?
Colleen: I believe employers can improve their branding to attract talent by always giving the candidates a great experience during the interview process. This is highly important to showcase the culture of any organization and candidates will always refer individuals to that company where they had a great experience. I also think that every company should have a very strong online presence when promoting their organization.
What is the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received, and how has it shaped your approach to your role at CSS ProSearch?
Colleen: I once had a leader tell me that I may fail before I succeed. This is so true and important to know that sometimes by failure it allows us to readjust what we are doing which can lead into success. I have learned that every year is a different challenge in the industry, and you have to work hard and always adjust your approach.
What do you think will be the biggest shift in recruitment over the next five years?
Colleen: I believe that AI could have an impact on recruitment in the future. I still very much believe that the “human interaction” aspect will always be extremely important and valuable.
